Phil Shoup was one of the many local players who tried back on New Years weekend to satellite his way into the WPT Rolling Thunder $3500 Main Event. The poker room guaranteed 20 seats into the Main Event in the satellite, and Shoup came up short.
He stayed around until all 20 seats were won, however, because there was a Last Chance Drawing where the house kicked in one complimentary $3500 entry into the Main Event.
Shoup's name was drawn, and he and wife Rose celebrated as though they'd won the actual Main Event itself. Rose is on the rail - as you see in the photo above - as Phil works his way along here during Day 2. He is up to about 120,000 chips after 2.5 hours of play today.
144 players remain, 45 are going to cash, but Shoup has already 'cashed' with his freeroll into the Main Event.
