1 table, 2 @WSOP Main Event 3rd place finishes, and they have even more than that in common. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Table 11 here in Day 2 of the $2500 HPT Championships.
Over in the 4 seat is Fear the Fedora himself, Neil Blumenfield (above), not just a local favorite from all the tournaments he's played here at Thunder Valley the past few years, but a national favorite for his 3rd place finish in the 2015 WSOP Main Event. Neil and the ever-present Fedora, along with friends bearing 'Fear the Fedora' T-shirts inside the Penn and Teller Theatre at the Rio in Las Vegas for the WSOP Main Event.
In the 9 seat, ALSO with a WSOP Main Event 3rd place finish to his name, taking 3rd in 2013 when Sacramento's JC Tran took 5th (JC bagged last night in Day 1A) is San Francisco's Amir Lehavot (below). Amir has a reputation for being one of the game's top coaches ... and that's where the common thread weaves its way here today.
Amir was Neil's coach as Main Event Final Table preparations took place a summer ago, with a team being assembled to prepare Neil for the November Nine to come. Their successes resulted in that 3rd palce finish so many of you watched on ESPN last year.
So, how does it feel for student and coach to be at the same table for Day 1B of the HPT Championship Event?
Neil just asked for a table change!
